Change Your Mindset to Handle Crazy Stress Days

Money, kids, relationships, work, politics, housework, pets, family, fitness, lack of fitness…

These are just a few of the things we stress over. Instead of tolerating stress, it’s time to try some new things, even if they seem a bit crazy. Because ignoring the problem will never make it better.

In Stressed Out and Overwhelmed? Design a New Workday!, I proposed that it’s up to us to create a better work environment. Maybe we can’t fix everything, but there are ways to create a healthier atmosphere. Now, it’s time to put handling our stress at the top of our to-do list.

So we can move from surviving our stressful lives to actually living them.

Change Your Mindset

Some businesses have human resource divisions that set up exercise classes during lunch or have stretch breaks. But sometimes you’re limited to your own resources and imagination. Is up to you to navigate the bridge between work, health and your personal life.

And that can be very challenging.

At the very least, start changing your mindset and realize that managing your stress is crucial to your overall health. We’re human beings and we bring our messy baggage everywhere we go. You may not be able to prevent every stressful situation, but you can avoid some of them.

Just stop putting your mental stability last on your to-do-list. Start making it a priority.

Keep an Open Mind and Try Something New

You may be thinking: I’d love to tackle my stress but I’m just too busy.

Except we can always do better. Even if your to-do list is a mile long, there are things you can do every day to reach your new anti-stress goals. We can’t avoid emergencies and accidents, but we can decrease stress throughout our day.

It’s all about searching for the right set of practices that will help you. Maybe none of these will help, but maybe they will.

You just have to be open to trying.

Meditation

My meditation group is one of the best things that ever happened to my search for a less-stressful life. I’ve tried group, outdoor, guided and even crystal bowl sound therapy meditations. I’ve loved them all.

“Those of us that do meditate know that you don’t have to hum, you don’t have to close your eyes, and you don’t even have to be in a quiet place to do it correctly.”

There are mediation apps and short Youtube videos to try. Try a few and see if it helps you find a few minutes of peace throughout your day.

Embrace Tranquility

“Clear your mind of any pre-conceived notions of what you like and what you don’t like. Be prepared to try something new and be open to new ways of discovery.”

Maybe crystals aren’t for you, but what about creating a more peaceful surrounding? Wouldn’t a peaceful atmosphere help you lower your stress levels? It may sound new-agey, but it just may help calm you in a stressful moment.

Get a Hobby

Sometimes we just don’t know what to do with our time. So we sit and obsess about all the stressful things in our life. Instead, why not try a calming hobby to pass the time?

In 5 Great Stress Relieving Hobbies, Kristina Cappetta shares suggestions including adult coloring books, knitting, and puzzles. We all know that sitting down and unwinding for a few minutes doing a puzzle can be relaxing. But sometimes we need to be reminded how powerful these simple practices can be.

Stress Can Be Managed

We’ll never be able to eliminate stress. It’s just a part of life. But we certainly don’t need to accept a chaotic, stress-filled life either. That’s why it’s important to manage stress instead of pretending it’s not that bad.

And remember: Don’t try to do everything yourself – get help where you need it!

We all have different issues and situations. Some may be able to afford the best preventive care and some may not. The idea is to make a strategy that works for you and makes managing your stress a top priority.
